Similar to its alkanethiol analog, this compound produces hydrophilic SAMs. The resulting SAMs can be further modified with various amines and alcohols to introduce more complex end groups (R. G. Chapman, et al., J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2000, 122, 8303).
